How to Make a Felt Heart
Step 1
Select a colored felt fabric of your choice. Using the heart template, trace 2 heart shapes on the felt fabric. Cut out the heart shapes. (The template includes 3 different sizes of heart shapes; you can use whichever you prefer.)
Step 2
Cut a piece of string, yarn, or bakers twine that is double the desired length of the hanging loop for the ornament. Fold the strand into half and tie a knot with the open ends to form a loop.
Step 3
Place the looped strand on the top-center part of one of the heart cutouts. The knotted side of the loop should be placed inside the heart shape.
Thread a needle (you can use different colored thread or matching thread) and tie a knot at the end of the thread. Draw the needle through the knot of the loop and the top edge of the felt heart cutout.
Step 4
Place the other heart cutout on the top of the first felt heart. Carefully stitch both heart cutouts together around the sides.
You can work with any stitch you like; I’m working a running stitch around the side.
Step 5
Make sure to keep a small opening to stuff the felt heart pattern. Stuff cotton or Poly-fil into the felt heart through the opening.
Step 6
Fill the felt heart with enough cotton or Poly-fil to give it a nice and fluffy look. Stitch the opening to secure the stuffing.
Step 7
Tie a knot in the thread close to the heart; then draw the needle through the plush and randomly draw it out again, hiding the knot inside the heart. Cut off remaining thread.
Enjoy your handmade felt heart!
