How to Make a Burlap Heart Wreath

Step 1

Print and cut out the heart template. Trace around the heart template on heavy brown cardstock; cut out the heart wreath base. Prepare a long strip of burlap lace.

Step 2

Apply a small amount of hot glue near the bottom of the heart wreath base.. Attach the burlap lace to the base. Begin wrapping the burlap lace around the base evenly, being sure to overlap the edges to completely cover the heart base.

Step 3

Continue wrapping the burlap lace around the base. If you reach the end of the strip of lace, wrap it around to the back of the base and secure it with a small amount of hot glue. At the same place, attach the end of a new strip of burlap lace, and continue wrapping it around the heart base in the same direction as before.

Step 4

Continue wrapping the burlap lace around the heart base until the base is completely covered. Be sure to cover the starting point for a finished look. Wrap burlap lace around to the back of the heart base and secure with hot glue.

Step 5

Select colored felt fabric for the flowers and the leaves. Use the template to trace the flowers (spiral pattern) and leaves onto the felt. Cut out the shapes.

NOTE: Cutting the felt will require sharp scissors (not child-safe scissors). Adult assistance or supervision is required.

Step 6

Using the first spiral felt cutout, find the outer edge (the pointed end) and begin to roll it in a circular pattern.

Step 7

Continue to roll the spiral of felt until it almost reaches the end. Apply hot glue to the bottom of the rolled felt and fold the end under, attaching it to the hot glue to form a base for the flower.

After both flowers are formed, use a small amount of hot glue to attach leaves to the base of the flowers as desired.

Step 8

Attach the felt flowers to the heart wreath base using hot glue. Attach a short loop of yarn or twine on the back of the heart for hanging, if desired.
