This kangaroo paper craft is perfect to make before a visit to the zoo. Young children will be delighted to see how the joey fits into the mother’s pouch—both in the papercraft and in real life.
This craft would also be fun to do along with an introduction to the letter K, using a “K is for kangaroo” theme.
But you don’t need any special reason to enjoy crafting with your child. Go ahead and make this cute little kangaroo “just because”!

How to Make a Kangaroo Paper Craft
Step 1
Select 3 different shades of orange and/or brown construction paper (we’re using orange and light brown, but you could also use dark brown or grey paper). Use one shade for the mother kangaroo, another for the mother’s pouch, and the third for the baby kangaroo.
Use white construction paper for the mother kangaroo’s eyes and inner ear pieces, and black paper for her nose. Choose pink paper for the heart.
Trace the template patterns on the selected craft papers and cut them out neatly.
Step 2
For the mother kangaroo, use liquid craft glue to attach the inner ear cutouts on top of the outer ear cutouts. Attach the nose cutout on the pointy tip of the head.
Using a black Sharpie or gel pen, shade in about 2/3 of each white eye cutout as pictured below.
Step 3
Attach the ear patterns on the top side of the head.
Step 4
Attach the eye cutouts near the top of the head as pictured below.
Step 5
Attach the leg cutouts on both sides of the kangaroo body. Apply glue around the round edge of the pocket cutout, leaving the top edge of the pocket intact.
Step 6
Attach the pocket cutout to the kangaroo body near the bottom edge.
Step 7
Use a black Sharpie or gel pen to draw the mouth of the papercraft kangaroo.
Step 8
For the baby kangaroo, use liquid craft glue to attach the head to the body.
Use a black Sharpie or gel pen to draw the eyes, nose, and mouth. Use a pink Sharpie or gel pen to add color to the cheek and centers of ears.
Step 9
Attach the heart shape to the center of the mother kangaroo’s pocket and insert the baby kangaroo into the pocket to complete the paper craft.
