As homeschool parents, we have so much learning to fit into our busy days. From core subjects to electives to life skills, there are so many important things we want our kids to learn.

I love the idea of combining subjects to simplify things a little! For example, handwriting and writing skills can be taught together using copywork. And recently we’ve experimented with teaching elementary science with history.

Today I’d like to focus on how you can teach math and science together with just one curriculum from SPORK Education.

SPORK Education Math and Science Curriculum

SPORK Education offers a unique approach to homeschool math and science for grades K-3. Instead of teaching these subjects separately, SPORK Butterfly Math & Science integrates science concepts into each math lesson.

This curriculum is designed to engage students and encourage a love of science and math. My science-loving daughter has been absolutely enthralled with the science portion of the lessons.

While most of the curriculum materials are online, this is NOT an online course. I’m still teaching my daughter just as I would if I had a teacher guide in front of me. The only difference is that I use all the materials directly from my laptop.

Teacher Materials

All SPORK Butterfly Math & Science teaching materials and tools are accessed through an easy-to-use online dashboard. Each lesson includes teacher information, answers, and links to online charts that illustrate the lesson.

The charts are gorgeous visuals with vibrant colors and detailed images—they definitely surpass the illustrations that I’ve seen in textbooks.

I think of the online dashboard as an all-in-one teacher manual for the course. Everything is there in one place.

Student Materials

As Kiera and I work through the lesson, she usually has several online practice activities to complete. We used a laptop for these, but a tablet would work much better (especially for younger students).

Several worksheets are interspersed throughout the lesson, both for review and to reinforce the new lesson. These can be printed directly from the dashboard, but we have the set of printed workbooks.

(I highly recommend purchasing the workbooks unless you have an affordable way to print hundreds of full-color pages. The color really adds to the visual appeal of the worksheets.)

In addition to plenty of worksheets and review pages, students complete a series of gamified learning activities each day. These are presented as a “learning path” where interactive activities are unlocked one at a time. (Kiera LOVES these!!)
