Homeschoolers in Pennsylvania are required to maintain “… a log, made contemporaneously with the instruction, which designates by title the reading materials used …” (Act 169, The Pennsylvania Homeschooling Law)
Because the wording of Act 169 is somewhat vague, the interpretations of this statement are many and varied. Some families choose to simply keep a list of any reading materials used; others turn in a detailed log that includes the pages and topics covered each day.
I personally take a middle-of-the-road approach to the homeschool log, listing the title of all reading materials used and simply checking off the days we use each book. In addition, I choose to list a few general categories such as art, music, and physical education, primarily to keep myself accountable.
I designed this editable daily checklist log to meet my own needs, but now I’d like to share it with you! Even if you aren’t in Pennsylvania, you may need to record similar information to fulfil your state’s requirements. And if you are fortunate enough to have no outside requirements, you may enjoy using this checklist log as a straight-forward summary of what you have covered in a year’s time.
This Editable Daily Checklist Log is an Excel file covering thirty-six weeks in six pages. It also contains a data entry sheet where the title, name, and subjects can easily be customized. And it’s a FREE download!
This is SO awesome! Thank you so much for sharing it. I just evaluated portfolios today and this would have come in very handy for that mom. 🙂
I hope you are doing well and that you had a great weekend! Many blessings, Lisa
This is SO awesome! From fellow Homeschooler in Pennsylvania, Thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much, Dawn! It’s always a pleasure to meet another PA homeschooler. 🙂
I downloaded this but it won’t let me edit it without a password.
Thank you! So helpful!
You’re welcome, Julie–so glad you can use it! 🙂
This checklist is just what I’ve been looking for. However, I can’t edit the dates and other cells unless I have a password to remove the protection on the sheet. Thanks for sharing this.
Hi, Emily! If you look along the bottom of the spreadsheet, there is a separate tab called “Data” or something like that. You can enter the info there, and it will automatically fill in the information in the printable sheet. Hope that helps!
This is awesome. I’ve been looking for something like this – Thanks for doing all the work!
I have been using this the last several years, THANK YOU!!! It is a fantastic format for a busy momma.
I’m so glad it is helpful for you, Esther! 🙂
