A gifted math teacher can spark enthusiasm and build confidence in his students. I know, because I had one such teacher.
Mr. Muir could bring math to life. His excitement about all things math was tangible, inspiring my determination to master each new topic. I admit I never loved geometry, but with the help of my amazing teacher, I made it through and went on to genuinely love Algebra II.
Eventually I tested out of basic math class in college, and I still enjoy the challenge of math to this day. If only I could pass along that spark to my children!
Instead, though, I find my tongue twisting and my mind racing ahead. I struggle immensely to present new math concepts clearly. I can show, but not explain.
Ultimately we decided to use videos to teach math lessons–that was one of the very best decisions we have made for our homeschool.
I received free access to this product and was compensated for my time. All thoughts and opinions are my own; I was not required to post a positive review.

Lessons for the odd-numbered chapters available on YouTube for free, but all the lessons and practice sets are available on the website.
What We Love About Online Saxon Math Videos
1. Videos are available online.
I’m a huge fan of keeping homeschool portable (car-schooling, anyone?), and lugging a laptop and DVD around is most certainly NOT portable in my book. Nicole the Math Lady’s lessons are available online and are accessible via mobile devices, as well as computers.
My teen son, Collin, loves the idea of being able to watch his math lessons on his iPod! Super convenient!
2. Lessons are brief.
We have used other Saxon Math video lessons that were incredibly time-consuming. My teens and tweens dreaded math every day, in part because it took so long to complete. With Nicole the Math Lady, lessons are divided up by topic, with each topic getting its own short, to-the-point video.
3. Learning is fun!
Yes, I DID say fun! Nicole didn’t earn her title of “Math Lady” with boring, monotone lectures. (Yep, we’ve had those before.)
If other Saxon Math videos could be considered a math encyclopedia, then Nicole the Math Lady would be the “living book” of math. Her use of “NICOLEisms”—mnemonic devices, silly songs, and other strategies—helps make math both memorable and fun.
See for yourself:
BIG WIN! Within the first 5 minutes of watching the videos, Collin asked me if he could continue using Nicole the Math Lady for his math lessons. My kid actually wanting to do math? Amazing!!
