Living books are my favorite tool for teaching just about everything. Nothing compares to the spark that an engaging book can ignite in a child.

Living science books help my kids learn without even realizing it, while also enabling me to introduce them to topics that I don’t personally know much about.

We recently discovered some excellent, full-color books about tropical reef fish. My six-year-old daughter loves them, and I love seeing her enthusiasm and interest in a new topic!

I received this book for free and was compensated for my time. All thoughts and opinions are my own; I was not required to post a positive review.

Marine Life Children’s Book

Tam Warner Minton, a scuba diver and photographer, is writing a new series of high-quality children’s books about tropical reef fish. These books are perfect for an enjoyable approach to homeschool science.

The first book in the series is All Fish Faces: Photos and Fun Facts about Tropical Reef Fish (also available at Barnes & Noble).

The newest book in the series, More Fish Faces: More Photos & Fun Facts about Tropical Reef Fish, is just as gorgeous and engaging as the first book.

On each page the author shares interesting facts about tropical fish in a kid-friendly, conversational style. She also sprinkles in some fun tidbits that kids will find entertaining or amusing. No dry, boring reading here!

Every page in More Fish Faces contains stunning underwater photos of marine life. Each photo is labeled with the name of the fish and the location where it was photographed. (Great opportunity to sneak in a little geography!)

I like to read the text to my daughter and point out some interesting details in the photos, and then she looks at the pictures as long as she wants on her own.

Have your kids ever heard about . . .

  • fish that have teeth that are harder than gold?
  • fish that have an extra set of jaws in their throats?
  • fish that carry enough poison to kill 30 people?

If they haven’t, then you need More Fish Faces! (This book is also available at Barnes & Noble, or even better, you can order directly from Tam Warner Minton and get a 20% discount.)

And the best part is that this a book that the entire family will be able to enjoy. It’s simple enough for younger learners to understand, but yet contains enough details to hold the attention of older kids and yes, even parents!

We love this book and wholeheartedly recommend it. You won’t regret adding it to your living books collection.
