Perfect Pizza Sauce {Batch Cooking}

After trying several different brands of commercial pizza sauce, I decided it was worth the effort to make my own homemade version. This thick, flavorful pizza sauce is far better than any of the jarred sauces I have tried, and it couldn’t be any easier to make!

This recipe yields a big batch, approximately equivalent to twelve (12 oz.) cans or jars of pizza sauce. And the cost? About one third the price of pizza sauce at the grocery store.

Perfect Pizza Sauce {Batch Cooking}

Ingredients

  • 1 #10 can 105 oz. tomato sauce
  • 3 12 oz. cans tomato paste
  • 1/4 c. brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. Italian seasoning
  • 2 Tbsp. oregano
  • 1 Tbsp. minced onion
  • 2 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt

Instructions

  • Add all ingredients to large pot; whisk together until combined. Simmer over medium-low heat for 30 minutes.
  • Freeze as desired.

    May have to give this sauce a try. Not only do we use pizza sauce on pizza, but also on our mea ball subs.

    Most store brands end up on my “dislike” list! Dei Fratelli is the one I use most regularly, but I’ll definitely try this–sounds yummy! 🙂

    1. I don’t think I’ve seen Dei Fratelli in our local stores. Is it perhaps regional? I won’t mention the brands we have tried, LOL–we did find one brand that was fairly decent, but it would cost about $24 to buy as much pizza sauce as I made for under $7.
      We made five pizzas today to share with friends for Kaylee’s birthday . . . and there’s only a little left! 🙂

    1. Kristen, I freeze the extra in plastic containers. I’m sure canning would also work very well, and it would be a great option if you are limited on freezer space.

  7. Nix the garlic powder and use real garlic. Either out of a jar of minced or preferably mince your own garlic cloves. Add some olive oil, black pepper, thyme, and if available fennel. If you like a kick in your sauce a dash of crushed red pepper. If mixed properly there is no need to cook for 30 minutes. Simply refrigerate. Sauce will marinate and fuse on it’s own and will cook in the oven when placed on the pizza.
